The Renovation Cleanout Checklist

A staged renovation cleanout approach that keeps debris out of living spaces and can cut Canadian bin rental costs by about 20%.

Cleanouts get expensive when they are unplanned. The single biggest lever on cost is timing — a bin scheduled to arrive the day demolition starts and pickup the day it ends will always beat one that sits idle.

Before the bin arrives: sort donations, book e-waste drop-off separately, and clear a 4m x 3m flat spot with 5m of overhead clearance.

During demolition: load heavy items first (concrete, ceramic), then bulky items (cabinets), then loose fill (drywall, insulation). Never fill above the top rail — most haulers will refuse an overloaded bin.

After: photograph the empty bin location. Any driveway damage claim needs a before-and-after.
