Winter Bin Placement: Snow, Ice, and Short Rental Windows
Cold-weather rentals work — if you plan driveway access, weight, and pickup timing. Practical tips for Canadian winters.
Haulers deliver year-round in most Canadian metros, but winter adds friction. Clear a path wider than the truck's wheelbase, shovel the drop zone to bare pavement when you can, and flag soft shoulders that look solid but are snow over mud.
Frozen ground can actually protect a soft lawn better than spring thaw — but ice ruts and hidden curbs damage trucks and driveways. Photograph the placement area before delivery. Keep the rental window short: idle bins collect snow load and block snow clearing.
Heavy materials behave differently in cold weather. Wet concrete and ice-laden debris add weight fast. If you are demoing in January, talk weight allowance with the hauler before you fill to the rail.
